If your dad spends a lot of time in the car, these are perfect. We've been using Bolinda audio books to keep the kids quiet in the car for years. Now we can keep dad quiet as well!

How to be a Happier Mum & The Ideas Book

Still on the mother's day theme (Australian Mum's Day is Sunday 8 May 2011) we just received a review copy of a book called "How to be a Happier Mum!" (New Holland).

Now this sort of self-help book is probably not for everyone, but it does contain inspiring stories and strategies that can help parents, especially mums live a happier and more fulfilling life.

With chapters such as Mummy Overwhelm, Nutrition and Exercise, Work and Career, Yoga and Meditation and Wildflowers, the book covers areas of exercise, nutrition, relaxation, beauty, goal setting, cultivating happiness and relationships. Author Nicky Arthur is  also a workshop presenter, motivational speaker, yoga teacher and mother of two girls.

RRP $19.99 available at all major retailers and online at nickyarthur.com

Another bright idea for the house proud mum is "The Ideas Book" from designer and author of "Australia Vintage Living!",  Bronnie Masefau

Written to inspire and designed small enough to fit comfortably in to a woman's handbag, Masefau's The Ideas Book has handy interior design tips for all areas of the home from the kitchen and dining areas to bedrooms, bathrooms, lounge rooms and even laundry areas. Its more than just a book though, its a place to store ideas, with spare pages after each chapter for mum to scribble her thoughts. There's even an area to jot down the addresses of favourite shops and design outlets.

The Ideas Book is available online at Bronnie Masefau's website for $24.95 plus postage & handling!

Mum & Me Recordable Book

Many might say that Mother's Day (8 May 2011) is a "Hallmark Holiday" so perhaps it's fitting that this year Hallmark has released a mother's day gift with a twist. Called "Mum & Me"

Recordable Storybooks allow your wife  and your child to record their voices on every page, creating a lasting keepsake.  Hallmark has both mums and grandmothers covered with three titles - Mum & Me, Grandma & Me, and I Love You Grandma.

The books include simple prompting questions, which your kids record answers to e.g. "If mum won a million dollars, what would she do with it?"

The Hallmark Recordable Storybooks are available for $34.99 at retailers and also online at the Hallmark website.

Books4PNGKids.org

We've recently learnt about the great work being done by an Australian charity called Books for PNG Kids.

Papua, New Guinea is Australia's closest neighbour. Inhabited by 6 million people, it is only one hour's flight from Cairns, however, for the nation's children in remote highland and coastal villages, there are no high tech' classrooms. Villages and communities must construct their own elementary and primary school buildings and organise their own education systems.

Schooling is not free in PNG! Kids can only go to school if their families are able to pay fees. Villagers rely on sales from their fresh produce to the other locals and from their craft works to the occasional tourists who find their way to these remote parts of the country

If you can help with  good used books - suitable for  primary school children, teachers and schools, please contact Books 4 PNG Kids.

Brocky - Peters Own Story

Toranas and Commodores- Peter Brock was a holden racing legend.

And whether your a dihard Holden fan or not, when Peter Brock was tragically killed in 2006, the outpouring of grief from around Australia revealed how this charismatic hero had touched the nation

Brockytranscended his own sport through his good looks and the power of his personality, but it was on great race circuits like Bathurst that the man became a legend.

'BROCKY' is his very own story of a remarkable career. Most of it was written before his death, and was checked and approved by the man himself. It is therefore as close to an authorised biography as there can be. This is the story of his life in top gear, as he wanted it told.

Written by long-time friend and collaborator David Hassall, an award-winning motoring journalist, the book covers his turbulent relationship with Holden, the infamous Polarizer and recalls all the great races that made the Brock legend, taking you behind the scenes of an intriguing and often controversial sport.

Sportsyear Sports Diary

Keeping track of everything we have to do during the year AND making sure we get to see all the essential sporting events is no longer difficult with the Sportyear Sports Diary. Never again will I have to sit in a wedding service wondering whether it will be all over in time for the second half (the service that is, not the marriage, although that's another story).

Right now, you can even win a Sportsyear Diary for FREE from our friends at FishMax.com.au. Click here to find out how.
